The standards for vocal harmony in black music
with a spiritual vibe have been set by the likes of Take 6, Sweet
Honey in the Rock and the UK’s own Black Voices.
Plankton have teamed up with The Mohabir Sisters to release
their debut CD “Feel The Power” which is an album
that would take its bow with any of the above.

Proving that contemporary gospel doesn’t have to sound
like second rate R&B, the album neither loses its cutting
edge tempo nor spiritual lyrics of hope and appreciation in the
midst of a broken world. Ranging from the steady beat and familiar
gospel lyrics, through driving tempo, haunting vocal performances
and even calypso influences, the girls deliver a rich mix of
sounds and emotions.
Dedicating the album to their late father Philip Mohabir who
died in 2004, the girls embarked on the project in late 2005
having decided to undertake a project that would both honour
the man who had been such a support and influence in their lives
and also raise money for one of the many projects he pioneered
and supported in his country of birth, Guyana.
The album is also dedicated to one of the girls - Anne, who
sadly, and unexpectedly died shortly before the release of the
album. The richness of her voice lives on in the wonderful “Shine
On Me”
Singing together since they were old enough to string a sentence
together their musical influences include Take 6, India Arie,
Israel Houghton, CeCe Winnans, Fred Hammond, Mary Mary and Kirk
Franklin. They have performed in many countries - South
and North America, Scandinavia, West Indies to name a few.
Whether listening to the CD or experiencing the girls live we
are sure that we are all about to ‘feel the power’ of
The Mohabir Sisters.
